Extractions
When a tooth is damaged beyond repair, it may be necessary to extract it. Missing adult teeth need to be replaced to prevent tipping and drifting of neighbouring teeth, which may adversely alter the bite. Implants, bridges, and dentures are several options to restore the missing tooth or teeth.
In the case of young children whose adult teeth are not ready to erupt, a space maintainer may be inserted to prevent shifting and crowding of teeth.
It is often recommended that young adults have their wisdom teeth removed. Typically, a referral to the Oral Surgeon is given for these extractions, as minor dental surgery under anaesthesia is involved.
